Clinical Program Admissions

Currently, the clinical program accepts approximately 12 students for admission each year. Students are notified of admission in the Spring and begin their study in the following Fall semester. We normally receive applications from approximately 125 individuals.

The Clinical Admissions Committee considers four main dimensions when evaluating applicants:

  1. Academic performance
  2. GRE scores
  3. Research record
  4. Personal factors

In assessing academic performance, primary consideration is given to undergraduate grade point average. Applicants having graduate coursework are still judged principally by their undergraduate performance. In evaluating GRE scores, a minimum total aptitude score of 1100 is ordinarily required. The Committee also looks for evidence of promise in research. In assessing the "personal factor," the committee carefully reviews the required personal statement and letters of recommendation.

A review of students accepted into the clinical program over the past few years yields the following typical profile:

  • The undergraduate grade point has averaged 3.6 on a 4 point scale
  • The sum of the GRE verbal and quantitative scores is generally in the 1250 to 1300 range. It should be noted that the strength of the analytical component of the GRE is also considered.
  • Most of our students enter with a history of active research involvement
  • Students' ages are generally in the 25-35 year old range
  • The gender distribution tends toward females, with the balance being about 65% female and 35% male.
  • Vigorous recruiting efforts during the past several years have resulted in approximately 20% of each class being composed of minority students, and we strongly encourage applications from minority students, as well as students with physical disabilities.
