Academic Background
I received my B.A. in Psychology from New Mexico State University and my M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. I completed a clinical internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh, PA.
Research Interests
A developmental psychopathology perspective with an emphasis on family-systems principles guides my work. My current research is designed to increase understanding of emotion socialization processes (e.g., parental responsiveness to distress) during adolescence. I also am interested in how these processes contribute to the development of emotion regulation skills (e.g., regulation of emotional expression) and symptoms of psychopathology (e.g., deliberate self-harm).
